We started our day 16th in Silver. We didn't have a strong Qualifier, but we played well in the Feb Power League. We finished a strong 2nd in or pool only loosing to CC Jrs Black.
We were in a tough crossover match against a very hard hitting Mid Valley team and we held our own. We fell in the first game 23-25 and 22-25 in the second, but we played well and took Mid Valley out of their game. Our blocking is amazing for this age group and it is fun to watch our net play!
Our offense is starting to flow more easily and we are making smarter choices with the ball. Our setters are doing a better job with quick thinking and moving the ball around to all of our hitters. Defensive is improving but we are still on our heels too much, just a bit slow, but it is getting better everytime we play.
We finished the day with a nice win over CC Jrs Black (the team that beat us in pool) so we were heading home from a PL at about 4:15, that was nice!!!!!! We moved up to 3rd in Silver (11th overall) and we were only a few points away from Gold, it was a good day :)
We head back to PL right away on March 6th, hoping to pull out a Gold ranking! Great job ladies!!!!!!

14 Black hangs in for 3rd place finish in Yakima
Yakima was a good tournament for us. We headed over to Yakima with 9 players on Saturday and only 8 on Sunday. We started strong in pool play finishing 1st in the morning wave. We were not playing great volleyball, but it was solid enough and our confidence was growing. We started strong against a scrappy Wildcats team, we struggled a little with getting caught in transition due to the ball coming back over so quickly, but we pulled it out. Then played PACV and did some good things Sarah and Renee connected with a couple nice slides and started to get into a rhythm which was nice to see. Kallie had some nice kills in this match made possible by a strong defense, anchored by Julia and her "special" shirt. Our big match for 1st and 2nd in the pool was against, "THE HOUNDS", and man they had some loud fans, not always positive either. Jamilee stepped up with some nice line shots, Miranda was a strong back row presence passing better with each game. Nicole was solid on the right side picking up a couple touches while blocking and her setting improved throughout the match. Ryleigh put together a few nice service runs and we pulled away with the win in 2.
We started wave 2 against Cowlitz Red and it was a fun match for the kids, and the coaches. I enjoyed seeing some players I miss from last yr and our girls had fun playing against their buddies. We ended day one undefeated and really starting to move better on defense.
Our evening of secret sister stuff was short lived, we had players ill and tired so we all were in for the night at 10:00.
Sunday slotted us against a solid team form up north, we went 3 but played well and pulled out the win. Our net play was great and setters were working hard on getting the ball to the net and thinking more. Several of our girls were sick and struggling to breathe, no complaints while they played very hard though. We faced "The Hounds" again, this time we lost a little focus and ended up falling to them in 3 very close games. They are a team that just never gives up, they are scrappy and it was good a long battle, we learned to cover better in this game. Miranda and Meredith both improved with every match, feeling more confident in coverage and base defense.
Bracket play started with us reffing 2 very talented volleyball teams (I thought we might be in a little trouble if we moved on to face the winner) We stepped out on the court against Desert Shock and played some very good volleyball, Sarah was a huge presence at the net over the weekend, she really played well and anchored our front line. Meredith stepped into the OH position and had key kills in this match. Julia covered the back row with a lot of composure and leadership. Nicole and Renee really started to control the tempo more moving the ball around to our hot hitters. Ryleigh had beautiful passing that helped our offense get started right off the bat. Desert Shock didn't know what hit them! We moved on in the bracket to face Strike Force, a very good team full of talented 8th graders with a lot of front row power and great defense. We stepped up to the challenge and took them to 3 games, eventually falling 13-15. Jamilee was a huge front row presence in this game racking up critical kills and good block timing on their big hitter. It was a great volleyball match with long rallies and solid play by everyone! Strike Force went on to win the Power Division with us being very happy with our 3rd place (tie) finish in Power Division I. Kellie and I were so proud of the way the girls played all weekend!!!! Looking forward to many more great tournaments and fun volleyball.
*We finished our Power League Qualifier in Silver division and are shooting for Gold on Feb 21st.

Pre Qualifier Tournament 2010
The girls had a good start to the 2010 season in Longview this weekend. 14's Black is carrying 10 players this season and all are very talented athlete's. Miranda Cunningham, Renee Pitts, Sarah Luedke, Ryleigh Dobbins, Nicole Seidl, Kallie Schmit, Jamilee Iddings, Jaimi Gomes, Meredith Hickey, and Julia Leggett make up the roster for our team this year.
Kellie and I both were not sure what to expect in the 14's division. We have good height, strong setters, and a solid passers, but we were not sure where we would fall in terms of depth when compared to opposing teams.
The girls showed up excited and ready to play from point 1.
We dominated our first 2 games easily against Olympia's Roshambo. Nicole and Renee are our setters and both did an outstanding job of getting to the ball and using all of their hitters. Strong serving by Nicole and Ryleigh in this match started our day on he right foot from the service line.
88% for the day (every kid got to serve at least once)
We rolled into our 2 match against a little stronger team but still finished them off easily. Sarah (MB)and Jamilee (RF) worked well together at the net and blocked the ball very well. Julia was a standout in the back row as our libero making solid passes and getting louder as the day went on, starting feeling more comfortable in her roll as libero.
Our 3rd match was against Excel Silver we split with them after easily beating them in the first game we lacked intensity in the second. Meredith (RF) made key serves and is starting to be more aggressive at the net, learning transition and contributing well to the offense. Jamilee and Kallie both (LF) are new to club this yr., both with a ton of hops! Jamilee sets a solid block, and when she swings hard has a great cross court shot. Kallie is a hitter, making it look easy, and is working hard on learning transitioning. I saw good things from the 3 girls who are new to the 14's club division. A big jump from middle school to Club ball, and all 3 are picking it up really well.
Ryleigh and Sarah (MB) have their work cut out for them this yr. blocking and working on quickening up their game. Kellie and I expect a lot from them and they both did very well this weekend. Ry had some awesome 10's and Sarah had critical stuffed blocks. Both girls are learning on closing blocks and running 1's with confidence. They are a strong MB combo.
Renee and Nicole were solid all day long and they are communicating better with their hitters and each other. Both girls made great saves (Nicole even saved a 4th hit that was amazing), great leaders on the floor all day!
We came out of pool play ranked #1 and really looked good. we were in the Championship bracket which pitted us against the #2 from Pool A (Power Surge) . We battled hard and had a few bum breaks (ref didn't know the rules, kept calling double contact on first ball over, wouldn't let my captain talk to him, was a mess) awe well though. It is what it is and no whining about it now. Lost gm 1.) 24-26 won gm. 2.) 25-21 with an amazing service run by Jaimi (DS) 8 or 9 points in a row to give us a lead 23-18 when she was done. Jaimi is quick and is able to adapt where I need her, she plays hard and is competitive on every point, saw her improve as the day went on. We eventually lost gm 3.) 15-8, we just ran out of gas.
We can hang with some of the top teams right now, we had moments of brilliance and moments of not so brilliant. Kellie and I were both really happy with the way we played as a whole, everybody contributed, everybody worked hard. It was a good place to start. We go to Power League on the 24th............ Then I guess we will see how we really stack up .
Miranda went home sick, hoping she is feeling better, we missed her :)
